Energy Researcher Community
A Sweden–Japan network of researchers who work on energy — kept together after the current phase of MIRAI ends.
Join if you want to find people in the other country: a host laboratory, a partner for a grant application, or simply someone who works on the same problem as you.
Why
Networks should outlast funding
MIRAI has connected Swedish and Japanese universities over several phases. The current phase ends in 2026. Projects and grants come to an end, but the contacts between people can continue — if someone keeps them together.
What we do
This community is a small, informal way to keep those contacts. We collect the profiles of researchers who are interested in collaboration between Sweden and Japan, and we connect people when a need appears.
An example
An early-career researcher wanted to do an internship at Kyushu University, but did not know whom to ask. Through this network, they were connected to the relevant laboratories and professors.
What it offers
Three things, kept simple
Introductions
Tell us what you need, and we connect you with the right laboratory or person in the other country — for an internship, a research visit, or a first contact in a new field.
Online meetings
When the community has 20–30 members, we plan occasional online meetings. Members present their research in short talks and look for collaborators.
Partners for grants
A place to find partners for international applications — for example Horizon Europe, and Swedish and Japanese funding programs that support joint work.
Who can join
Energy in the broad sense
- Any career stage — PhD students, postdocs and group leaders.
- Mainly in Sweden and Japan — at universities and research institutes.
- Any part of the energy question — materials and devices, energy systems, and the policy, economics and cities around them.
- With or without MIRAI experience — you do not need to have taken part in MIRAI before.

The community is run by Roman Selyanchyn (Q-PIT, Kyushu University), a member of MIRAI’s Global Challenge Team for Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage (GCT 4). It is an informal network, not an official program of MIRAI. For MIRAI itself, see mirai.nu.
